MUSINGS FROM THE BENCH

This week we have a set of 1v0 attack drills. These can be used as warm up drills at the beginning of practice to get the feet and hands going.

Warm up should always take into account that the first drill is highly focused on the goaltenders.

Players should be selecting shots that give the goaltenders the opportunity to warm up there hands along with low shots on pads. This gives the goalies an opportunity to use their butterfly and stick.

Drill #1

NZ Quick Hands

  1. Both sides start at the same time.

  2. X1 starts without the puck swing out to receive and give back puck to O2.

  3. X1 swing towards boards heading back to his line for a pass from X3 and gives back.

  4. X1 continues below the blue line and gets a pass from X2 and gives back.

  5. The final part of the drill X1 skate towards the boards and with timing accelerate to the middle to receive the puck from X3.

  6. X1 goes around C for a shot.

Drill #2

4-Corner Blue Puck Exchange

  1. X1 skates backwards with puck and exchanges with X2

  2. X1 then exchanges with opposite X1 (lead pass into space)

  3. X1 then passes to X2 and turns across blue to receive return pass from X2

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“The task of the excellent teacher is to stimulate ‘apparently ordinary’ people to unusual effort. The tough problem is not in identifying winners: it is in making winners out of ordinary people.”
